All legal requirements to hold the public hearing have been met.
Ms. Brylinski opened the public hearing at 10:00 am. She read the Public Hearing Notice and explained the public hearing comment process.
Jane Luchsinger: Would like to see the Town have the first right of refusal on the property if the project does not materialize as proposed.
Tom Prendergast: Stated his support for the project and the assistance being asked of from the IDA.
Stephen Stuart: Stated that he is happy to see a project proposed for the schoolhouse and that the project sounds great. The Weidens have a respect for the building as an educational facility and he supports the application to the IDA.
Ned Lang: Stated that he was a bit dismayed that the Weidens went to the IDA for assistance since they originally said they would not be seeking any tax exemptions.
Tony Ritter: Wanted to know who determines what type of PILOT is received by the project and how much funds go to the County and Town. Ms. Brylinski explained the Uniform Tax Assistance Policy that the IDA is required to have and adhere to by law.
Norman Meyer: Stated that he was originally assured that there would be no tax breaks on this project, and now the project is looking for breaks.
Kathy Michell: Was in support of the project and the IDA assistance being asked for. She stated that the project was good for the community and that the Weidens are committed to the community.
Carol Wingert: Stated that the Weiden project was refreshing and will help with revitalization. They did good due diligence. Traditionally, she does not like tax abatements but she does support this project. She would like to see the County of Sullivan IDA follow the new recommendations put out by State Comptroller Thomas Napoli.
Jane Luchsinger: Wanted to know when she could see the full tax schedule for this project and who funds the IDA.
Iris Helfeld: Stated that she supports some financial assistance for the project from the IDA. It is a good project and benefits the community and she is in favor of the project.
Ned Lang: Was concerned about what happens if a project does not produce as it originally said it would. Ms. Brylinski explained the safeguards in the agreement and the penalties involved if a project does not meet reasonable expectations.
Stephen Stuart: Stated that he was a member of the local fire department and they give their support to this project.
Anna Milucky: Asked about how special district taxes work and the PILOT process. Ms. Brylinski explained these items.
There being no further public comment, Ms. Brylinski closed the public hearing at 10:30 am.
